Mastermind is offering a live, online expert-led, research-backed Mindfulness Teacher Certification Training starting in September 2020.

If you’re looking to deepen your own mindfulness practice, learn how to share mindfulness to others, and spread science-based mindfulness training to your community, this offering is for you.

Led by Chief Mindfulness Officer Dorsey Standish and supported by former professor and mindfulness psychologist Dr. Marty Lumpkin, Mastermind’s 60-hour training will give you the education and practical experience to deepen your own practice and teach others. Along this journey you will study the brain health benefits of mindfulness meditation, practice mindfulness meditation and mindful movement, and spend lots of time leading mindfulness exercises and classes with your fellow trainees.

This training program will offer:

An opportunity to learn and deepen a personal practice in a nurturing environment among like-minded peers
Learn to teach mindful meditation using your mind, heart and body
Learn the neuroscience behind meditation, including major components and networks of the brain and nervous system that are impacted by mindfulness and meditation
Learn the research-backed benefits of mindfulness meditation for the mind and body
Gain skill that apply mindfulness and self-compassion to relationships, conflict and trauma
Study and practice basic mindful meditations, including: breath awareness, body scan, five senses, imagery, lovingkindness, silent practice
Study and practice of mindful movement, including: walking meditation, yoga, Qi-Gong
Practices of informal mindfulness, including: mindful eating, mindful walking, mindful communication and attitudinal practices, including: a study of the pillars of mindfulness, gratitude and meeting difficult emotions
Applied practice creating customs meditations using language, phrasing, quotes, and poetry
Develop skills for leading classes, guiding students and developing and leading workshops
On-going professional mentoring and group support to deepen your practice

Required Reading: Wherever You Go, There You Are (Jon Kabat-Zinn); Altered Traits (Daniel Goleman & Richie Davidson); Into the Music of the World (Marty Lumpkin)

Trainees will receive:

A Mindfulness Training Certificate
45 hours of expert-led mindfulness teacher training
10 hours of peer-led mindfulness facilitation practice sessions
5 hours of practice teaching community classes
A framework for teaching structured mindfulness classes and workshops
Access to teaching outlines, curriculum supplements, and basic mindfulness exercises
Support in deepening a personal mindfulness practice (Students will be required to keep a mindfulness training log during training for certificate)
Recordings of selected training sessions for review and deeper learning
Admission to Mastermind workshops and community classes for the duration of the training

A limited number of full and partial scholarships are available. Apply by sending a paragraph to [email protected] along with your application sharing your need/desire to receive a scholarship. Scholarship recipients will pay a reduced enrollment fee.

Application alone does not guarantee entry. Invitations will be extended after meeting all requirements. We are accepting a maximum of 22 applicants on a rolling basis. Scholarship awards will be announced by September 1.

As Chief Mindfulness Officer of Mastermind Meditation, Dorsey Standish brings research-backed mindfulness and mindful movement to clients throughout the state of Texas. A lifelong learner and scientist, Dorsey has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and is enrolled in the UT Dallas Applied Cognition and Neuroscience Master’s Program. After mindfulness transformed her own work, health and relationships, Dorsey left her corporate role at Texas Instruments to share the power of mindfulness with others full-time. Dorsey’s teachings combine neuroscience research with her experiences in Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program and multiple weekend and 10-day silent meditation retreats. Dr. Martin Lumpkin is our Mindfulness Godfather, bringing four decades of mindfulness expertise, which provides a rich history of how mindfulness can impact and improve our mental and physical health. Dr. Lumpkin has served as a professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center, teaching Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction as part of the Clinical Psychology curriculum, and he has incorporated mindfulness based approaches into is own psychology practice since 2002. Regarded as one of our region’s top mindfulness experts, Dr. Lumpkin began learning mindfulness practices in 1982 with Joseph Goldstein in a retreat hosted by the Insight Meditation Society (one of the premiere organizations teaching mindfulness meditation). He also studied MBSR over several training periods provided by Jon Kabat-Zinn, the founder of Mindfulness Based Stress-Reduction and the Center for Mindfulness staff. Dr. Lumpkin is the author of Into The Music of The World: Living Life Mindfully, published in 2015. For decades, Dr. Lumpkin has taught an Introduction to Mindfulness Seminar for the public which is offered on a regular basis at Mastermind.
